Michael Quantrell

Yacht Captain

Michael Quantrell is an experienced Captain with more than 20 years in yacht engineering, estate management, and competitive racing. Throughout his career, he has overseen multimillion-dollar yacht refits and managed numerous deliveries along the East Coast. His ability to remain composed under pressure has been proven in challenging situations, including navigating through the extreme conditions of Category 4 Hurricane Irma in Florida in 2017.

His connection to the water began early while growing up in Camden, Maine. As a child and young adult, he could often be found sailing or skiing. Michael earned three medals at the Junior Olympics, including a bronze and a silver in the Laser Class Division. His dedication to sailing led him to race professionally in programs in New Zealand, New England, and England. In high school, he excelled in skiing and later spent ten years competing in Friday night lights skiing events in Maine. While living in Florida, he continued to race, winning all three qualifiers in the Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge, along with several smaller competitions.

At the age of 18, he began his professional career as a yacht Captain, managing vessels between 20 and 120 feet and captaining yachts up to 112 feet, most recently operating a 100-foot vessel. Quantrell has led extensive refit projects, turning ships into highly functional, well-maintained crafts. His experience includes transporting yachts from Mexico and across the United States, including Florida, the Bahamas, and the East Coast. For nearly five years, he has owned Ox Eye Marine Corporation, where he manages multiple yachts from 40 to 112 feet along the Eastern Seaboard, throughout the Bahamas, and across the Caribbean. His company’s services include project management, crew placement, systems analysis, major and minor refits, overseas shipping, sales, and boat show coordination.

His notable roles include serving as Captain for a 96’ Broward for 18 months, overseeing a $300k refit, directing crew activities, ensuring compliance, and organizing travel logistics. Michael also captained a 90-foot Offshore for two years, managing a multimillion-dollar refinance and refit that brought the yacht to optimal condition. Additional work includes delivery operations for a 112’ Westport, estate and vessel management in Palm Beach, and roles on other notable yachts, including a 59’ Herreshoff, where he managed racing operations and crew training.

Outside of his professional career, he enjoys being on the water, caring for his dogs, and spending time with family. Michael Quantrell continues to bring dedication, skill, and professionalism to every vessel and project he undertakes.
